Welcome to The Fe Jones Live Podcast! Today, let’s explore the transformative power of lifelong learning. Many may think that once we finish our education and enter the workforce, we no longer need to pursue further knowledge or skills. However, that is a misconception. As followers of Christ, we are called to have the mind of Christ, which includes being lifelong learners. Let’s delve into why the Bible encourages us to be disciples, gain wisdom, and develop skills throughout our lives.
Discipleship and More
The Bible repeatedly emphasizes the importance of discipleship. Jesus commanded us to go and make disciples of all nations, spreading His teachings and bringing others into His fold (Matthew 28:19-20). The Hebrew word for disciple, “Talmud,” appears 269 times in the Old Testament, emphasizing the role of being a student or learner. By embracing discipleship, we embark on a journey of continuous growth and deepening our understanding of God’s ways.
1. Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) – “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Additionally, the Bible highlights the significance of acquiring wisdom and developing skills. The Old Testament uses the word “chakam” to describe wisdom or being skilled, appearing approximately 148 times. The New Testament employs the Greek word “mathētēs” for disciple or learner, appearing around 261 times. These words encompass the idea of acquiring knowledge, deepening understanding, and continuously expanding our skills.
1. Proverbs 9:9 (NIV) – “Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous, and they will add to their learning.”
Adapting to Change
We are currently experiencing a technological revolution that is reshaping our world. The digital revolution is inevitable, and rather than fearing it, we must equip ourselves with knowledge and understanding. Understanding emerging technologies allows us to navigate their impact on various aspects of our lives, such as industries and employment. By embracing this revolution, we can effectively engage with the world.
Thriving in a Changing World
In this changing world, lifelong learning is crucial. It enables us to be wise, discerning, and proactive. We must understand the tactics of the enemy and seek God’s guidance in utilizing technology for His purposes. Lifelong learning equips us to discern truth from falsehood, engage in meaningful conversations, and make informed decisions.
1. Proverbs 2:6 (NIV) – “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Embrace Lifelong Learning
Embracing lifelong learning is not a mere suggestion but a biblical mandate. As followers of Christ, we are called to be disciples, learners, and seekers of wisdom. Lifelong learning allows us to navigate the complexities of our changing world, deepen our relationship with God, and positively impact those around us.
Let us commit to lifelong learning rooted in Scripture and guided by the Holy Spirit. Through humility, curiosity, and a genuine desire to grow, we position ourselves as effective witnesses, discerning individuals, and change agents.
